I've been listening to a lot of Bill Hicks lately, and he raises some interesting points.
For instance, what exactly is "pornography?" The Supreme Court defines pornography as anything that causes a sexual thought, and has no artistic merit.
Wow. Okay. Sounds like every commercial on television, doesn't it? Sounds like every ad in a magazine. Sounds like every trendy clothing store's ad campaign.
So you tell me, is pornography a bad thing?
There's a lot of dualism in our country. Things that are bad in one form, yet acceptable in another, even though boiled down they are the same thing.
Reality TV vs invasion of personal privacy.
The tradition of family values vs the rampant spread of family dysfunction.
Cigarettes vs marijuana vs alcohol vs coffee.
Declaring war on another nation vs preserving the safety of the American people vs sending in hired killers to remove perceived threats.
The power of the American government vs a government run by corporations vs taxation without representation.
Pornography? To me, pornography is sugar-coating something in order to make it easier to swallow.
